In regards to Carpeting and flooring we are what you describe as "Discount Carpet Store." We appeal to the market who is looking for "No-Frills" and price as the driving force. What we present and how we differ from other carpet stores is "Value." It is a rare occasion that I get to sell name brand and "Luxury Carpet." Most of our customers just want "the best bang for their buck." In my personal case I do not have a showroom, sales staff and most of the time I do not contract my work out. I am for the most part "A one man operation" whereas we are price driven. I am the salesman, the phone operator and the installer. Just the cost of contracting carpet and flooring labor is expensive. I began my career as a carpet installer working with my dad who installed carpet in the 1st Holiday Inn in 1952. In 1972 I quit college at then Memphis, State and I operated a Carpet Installation business. I was the 1st African/American business to sub-contact for "SEARS." I worked most of the Carpet store in Memphis. I later opened up stores in Memphis. Today I have a "Simple operation" customers personally call me, I come out measure give my discount price and I install most the carpet myself. Most customers whom I serve do not want to pay more for "Name Brand Carpet." Most of my customer do not finance their purchase. Some use a credit card but their is no special financing. Because I am an installer if carpet is already down and customer can use the exisiting pad I save customers money. In many cases customers want wood, but when they see the price many do not want to go into debt for flooring. I suggest Vinyl as an economic way to have a hard suface and not pay wood prices.
